Girls' Day Out

So what do teenage girls want to do in the middle of Seoul when they have the day off of school?  Noraebang of course!  Ali's middle school had the day off a few weeks ago for parent/teacher conferences, but Emma and Ryan still had school.  So I asked Ali how she wanted to spend her day, and she decided, more than anything, she wanted to try the Korean karaoke called noraebang.  So we gave some friends a call, and we all headed down to Hongdae for a little crazy, girl fun!

This place is amazing!  The beauty of Korean karaoke is that you don't sing in front of a huge crowd, only the people you come with.  This building behind us is full of singing rooms.  That's actually the translation of noraebang -- song room.  We didn't get one of the front window rooms (which I was actually pretty happy about).  Instead we got one of the back rooms.  To get there, we walked through this fun little garden.
From there we had to take off our shoes.
Here was our singing room:
The worker even delivered the drinks that we ordered right to the room.
So then it was finally time to get the party started!
We broke out the song book, which thankfully, had TONS of songs in English.
The girls started with a little One Direction -- That's What Makes You Beautiful.

It sounds great when you add some maracas!
Then it was our turn to bust out some tunes.  Not sure which was my favorite: Desperado by the Eagles or Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cindi Lauper.
We sang until our our throats hurt from belting and our cheeks hurt from laughing.  We couldn't believe it only cost the equivalent of $1/hour!

After we exhausted ourselves, we headed over to the Hello Kitty Cafe for some fun treats.

Fun day with some fun girls.  Remind me...why does Ali have to go to school everyday!?!

  1. That's one thing I probably miss the most about Korea is the Noraebang! I used to go there with friends and family all the time. Another place that you might want to try is Jjim-Jil-Bang. I hope you are enjoying Korea! I'm so grateful you are open to trying new things :)
